Robert De Niro Calls Jon Voight ‘Delusional’ in Ongoing Feud Over Donald Trump
Don’t sit Robert De Niro and Jon Voight together at the Academy Awards — or any other big Hollywood event. The actors are in a heated war of words over Donald Trump and the 2016 election.
After Voight publicly criticized De Niro’s “I’d Like to Punch” Trump voting video, which went viral over the weekend, the Taxi Driver star, 73, didn’t back down. On Sunday, De Niro responded to 77-year-old Voight’s comments, saying, “Voight is a nice guy, but he’s delusional.”
De Niro, who was at a press conference at the Palazzo Versace Dubai in Dubai promoting Caribbean tourism, went on to say, “The Republican party has rationalized that his guy is sane, that this guy should be president; it’s awful, they will self-destruct,” according to the local Khaleej Times.
He also commented on the growing list of Republicans — from Arnold Schwarzenegger to John McCain — who withdrew support for Trump. De Niro said: “How can you align yourself with that? It’s shameful.”
During the same event, De Niro had more tough talk for the GOP presidential candidate, whom he called a punk, dog, pig, con, bulls*** artist, and mutt, among other things, in the widely circulated video released by Anonymous Content for its voteyourfuture.us campaign. When asked if he could pose any question to Trump, what would it be, De Niro replied, “I don’t even know what kind of question to ask him because he’s so stupid.”
The two-time Academy Award winner also repeated the line from the video “I would love to punch him in the face,” to the amusement of the audience, which cracked up. But he didn’t find it funny. “I’m so angry that this fool has got to this point that he makes us angry, and he just cannot be elected president.”
He also told the audience that Trump doesn’t have a clue about what goes on in the rest of the world, no matter what he says.

De Niro’s 55-second video, in which he just ripped Trump apart, was released over the weekend and immediately got people talking. The Ray Donovan actor and Angelina Jolie’s dad took to Twitter to say he was “ashamed” of his fellow actor’s “ugly rant,” which used “foul words.” He went on to defend Trump’s comments about Nancy O’Dell and Arianne Zucker, saying, “I don’t know of too many men who haven’t expressed some sort of similar sexual terms toward women.” He also asked God to give Trump “the strength to continue his calling.”
De Niro and Voight, who have yet to comment on last night’s debate, co-starred in 1995’s Heat. Though it sounds like it will be their last collaboration.
