Robert Pattinson's “Possession” remake director teases 'viciously sharp, crazy, insane' film with 'teeth and ferocity'
"Smile 2" helmer Parker Finn tells EW what he has planned for Pattinson's upcoming turn in the film based on Sam Neill's 1981 cult classic.
Robert Pattinson's Possession remake director has set the bar bloody high for his upcoming adaptation of the 1981 classic horror film starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani.
In a new interview for his work on Smile 2, director Parker Finn tells Entertainment Weekly that the original, which follows a woman (Adjani) whose behavior becomes increasingly disturbing amid her divorce, is one of his "absolute favorite films of all time." He hopes his remake will please fans of the 1981 movie while attracting newer followers of his work on 2022's horror hit Smile and its just-released sequel.
"We're planning a viciously sharp, crazy, insane film," Finn says. "It's going to have all the teeth and ferocity that the original had, but I want to do something that pays homage and honors the original but is also a spiritual successor that's in dialogue with the original, that has some new explorations in it."

Finn says that he understands he now has a bigger audience thanks to his work on Smile, which became a runaway success for Paramount at the box office, grossing $217 million globally on a modest $17 million budget, atop earning positive reviews.
"I feel like I'm making this film obviously for a big audience, but I want to make this film also for the fans of the original," Finn says. "I hope people give it a chance!"
EW has reached out to representatives for Pattinson for additional comment.

Finn's Smile 2 picks up in the days following the grim ending of its predecessor and features the return of the first film's Kyle Gallner, who portrayed Joel, a police officer who inherited a deadly curse after witnessing his friend, Rose (Sosie Bacon) kill herself in front of him after she was possessed by an evil entity. The sequel then sees the curse transmitted to a pop star, Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), who must grapple with demons from her past as she comes to terms with her potential fate.
Smile 2 is in theaters Friday.
