‘Rogue Nation’ Blasts Off in China With $18.5 Million Opening Day

“Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” enjoyed a huge box office haul of $18.5 million (RMB118 million) on its Tuesday (Sept 8) opening day.
The score (which includes midnight screenings) is the highest ever ever for a 2D Hollywood film in China, and the fifth highest of all Hollywood opening days.
Compared with previous Tom Cruise outings, the opening is more than double (116%) up on “Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol.” It is also 17% above the opening of recent hit “Jurassic World.”
The strong opening puts “Rogue Nation” top of the China box office, according to unconfirmed local data sources, ahead of “Terminator Genisys.” If confirmed, that would give production house Skydance Productions a rare one-two in the world’s most populous nation. The weekend number one, Chinese propaganda title “Hundred Regiments Offensive” is relegated to fifth place, according to the same unconfirmed data.
More to come.
