ROMPtober coming to Hall of Fame next month
If you’re already missing ROMP, the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum has a deal for you.
ROMPtober Weekend is coming to the Hall of Fame on Oct. 11-12.
“It’s a way to bring the ROMP brand downtown,” said Deb Fillman, interim director of the Hall of Fame. “We’ve never done it before, but we want it to become an annual event.”
Think of it as an Oktoberfest with bluegrass music.
Fillman said three or four craft beer vendors will be offering beer tasting in the Hall of Fame lobby at 4 p.m. on Oct. 11 and a craft beer documentary will be shown in Woodward Theatre at 5 p.m.
A craft beer workshop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Oct. 12 and an infused bourbon workshop at 5:30 p.m.
Food trucks and arts and crafts vendors will all be part of the celebration.
Fillman said everything on Oct. 11 will be inside the Hall and everything on Oct. 12 will be outside.
Five bluegrass bands will perform over the weekend.
Cutter & Cash and The Kentucky Grass, a band from Marion, will kick it off at 7 p.m. on Oct. 11.
Fillman said, “They’re teenagers, but they’re really good. They’ve been on the Grand Ole Opry twice.”
Full Cord will perform at 8 p.m.
In 2021, the Grand Haven, Michigan, band won a virtual band contest sponsored by the Hall of Fame and earned a slot on ROMP that year.
“They’ve really blown up since then,” Fillman said.
Randy Lanham, education director for the Hall of Fame, will lead a jamming workshop at 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 12
The Sullivan Sisters, a Chicago-based duo, will perform at 1:30 that day on the outdoor stage.
Buffalo Wabs & The Price Hill Hustle, an Americana group from Cincinnati, will take the stage at 3:30 p.m.
And Damn Tall Buildings, a Brooklyn, New York-based trio that mixes bluegrass, swing and foot-stomping old-time music, will close out the weekend at 5:45 p.m.
“They were at the ROMP after-party,” Fillman said. “They were very popular.”
Tickets are $20 for Oct. 11 and $29 for Oct. 12.
The two-day package is $39.
“Tickets are very reasonable,” Fillman said. “And we have some very reasonable sponsorships too.”
Kids 12 and under are admitted free on Oct. 12, but they need tickets for seats in Woodward Theatre on Oct. 11.
