The Rookie Season 7 Arrives in 2025: Here’s Everything We Know
Mid-Wilshire Division will welcome two noobs — and will have said farewell to one friendly face — when Season 7 of ABC’s The Rookie arrives on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10/9c.
More from TVLine
TVLine exclusively reported on Aug. 8 that Tru Valentino, who joined the light procedural as recurring in Season 4 and got promoted in Season 5, will not be back as a series regular for Season 7.
Helping fill that void will be a pair of new rookies. Showrunner Alexi Hawley had given TVLine the heads-up on the potential additions when we spoke at Disney’s annual Upfront red carpet in May.
Referring to Lisseth Chavez’s character, who showed up in Season 5 as a rookie, Hawley said, “We’re looking at the end of Celina’s 13 months, so to speak, at some point in the [coming] season, so I think it’s fair to say that there might be a new rookie or two showing up at some point.”
Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher
As it turns out, there will be not one new recruit but two — in the form of Deric Augustine and Patrick Keleher, who have been cast as recurring guests for Season 7.
Augustine, whose TV credits include All American (as Clay), Godfather of Harlem and Shameless, will play Miles, a Texas transfer who despite having two years under his belt, will be a rookie at the LAPD.
Keleher, of Funny or Die’s The Egos, meanwhile will play Seth, who may seem like the ideal police officer, but the job requires quick, decisive action — and that, alas, is something that doesn’t come naturally to him.
But When Will The Rookie Return?
Alas, no time soon.
ABC’s fall schedule for the 2024-25 season features a Tuesday line-up of Dancing With the Stars leading into the new drama High Potential. Neither Will Trent nor The Rookie are anywhere to be seen, held as they both are being held for “midseason.”
The good news, though, is that once the two dramas return, they’ll do so in non-stop runs — of 18 episodes each, TVLine hears.
“The Rookie and Will Trent are two of the cornerstones of our schedule,” Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group, told TVLine when explaining the decision to hold both for midseason. “It felt like the best way to platform those shows for success was to launch them in January, when we have this huge promotional platform in New Years Rockin’ Eve as well as college sports and Christmas programming, and also to give these shows an uninterrupted run.”
Meaning, “They’re going to go straight through,” with no breaks/reruns, Erwich reiterated, “and that kind of momentum of original episodes week-in and week-out is just a very powerful engine for both of these shows.”
As it turns out, though, there may be a one-week break — to accommodate a presidential address– for The Rookie Season 7, which arrives Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 10/9c.
