Ryan Murphy’s ‘Grotesquerie’ cast includes Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and … Travis Kelce?!

Fresh off of her Emmy win for “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” Niecy Nash-Betts is re-teaming with uber-producer Ryan Murphy on his new horror drama, “Grotesquerie.” The FX series chronicles the investigation into several horrific crimes in a small town, with Nash-Betts taking on the lead role of Detective Lois Tryon. Three-time Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce will also appear in an undisclosed role. “Grotesquerie” premieres on Wednesday, September 25 on FX and streams the next day on Hulu — see the key art below.

Joining Nash-Betts and Kelce are the following cast members: Primetime Emmy winner Courtney B. Vance (“The People v. O.J. Simpson”) as Marshall Tryon, Oscar nominee Lesley Manville (“Phantom Thread”) as Nurse Redd, Tony nominee Micaela Diamond (“Parade”) as Sister Megan, Daytime Emmy winner Nicholas Alexander Chavez (“General Hospital”) as Father Charlie, and Spirit nominee Raven Goodwin (“Lovely & Amazing”) as Merritt Tryon.

Murphy has a long history of casting unique figures in his various programs, so don’t be too surprised to see Kelce’s name on the “Grotesquerie” cast list. Just last year, for example, entrepreneur Kim Kardashian appeared on “American Horror Story: Delicate” to great fanfare. Other out-of-the-box choices through the years have included supermodel Naomi Campbell on “AHS: Hotel,” singer Adam Levine on “AHS: Asylum,” singer Stevie Nicks on “AHS: Coven” and comedian Joan Rivers on “Nip/Tuck.”

“Grotesquerie” is written and created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, with the directors being Murphy, Max Winkler, Alexis Martin Woodall and Elegance Bratton. This marks the seventh horror TV series in Murphy’s ever-growing portfolio, following “American Horror Story” (2011-present), “Scream Queens” (2015-16), “Ratched” (2020), “American Horror Stories” (2021-present), “Monster” (2022) and “The Watcher” (2022).

Here is the official logline for the spooky show: “In FX’s ‘Grotesquerie,’ a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone — or something — is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter, a husband in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan, a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”
