Ryan Murphy’s ‘Grotesquerie’ Gets FX Premiere Date, Divulges Story Details
FX is revealing some more details — including a premiere date — for its forthcoming, Ryan Murphy-produced series Grotesquerie.
The series, a horror drama that Murphy announced in February with a cryptic teaser, is set to premiere on Sept. 25 on the cable outlet and stream the next day on Hulu. The cast includes Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Raven Goodwin and NFL star/Taylor Swift boyfriend Travis Kelce.

Details on Grotesquerie have thus far been scant, but FX supplied the following description of the show: “A series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon (Nash-Betts) feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone — or something — is taunting her. At home, Lois grapples with a strained relationship with her daughter (Goodwin), a husband (Vance) in long-term hospital care and her own inner demons. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of Sister Megan (Diamond), a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Lois and Sister Megan string together clues, they find themselves ensnared in a sinister web that only seems to raise more questions than answers.”
On Aug. 15, FX released a teaser for the series (watch it below), along with a first photo of Nash-Betts as Lois Tyron (at the top of this story). The video features a lot of neon-bathed, unsettling imagery and suggests that Nash-Betts’ and Diamond’s characters are tracking a killer who is, as Sister Megan puts it, “sermonizing … proselytizing.”
Grotesquerie comes from 20th Television, where Murphy is based. Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken created the series and executive produce with Alexis Martin Woodall, Max Winkler, Nash-Betts, Vance, Peter Liguori, Nissa Diederich, Eric Kovtun and Scott Robertson. Winkler, Murphy, Woodall and Elegance Bratton directed episodes.
