"I am in no way comparing myself to him," Reynolds quips.

Imagine if Deadpool was a little less foul-mouthed and a bit more elegant.

That's what Ryan Reynolds had in mind when put on the spot as to what classic Hollywood star he would cast as the titular superhero he's brought to life across three films, including the new release Deadpool & Wolverine.

"I am in no way comparing myself to him," Reynolds said in an interview with Turner Classic Movies. "But I would think Cary Grant had a bit of a silver tongue. And I think Howard Hawks could direct it because the rapid-fire dialogue that he was so gifted at putting on the screen would suit him perfectly."

Reynolds will appear on the network on July 20, beginning at 8 p.m. ET, introducing two of his favorite films — Planes, Trains, & Automobiles and Grosse Pointe Blank — and joining host Ben Mankiewicz in conversation. Reynolds is currently producing a documentary about comedian John Candy, and he had to ask executives at Paramount to help him get the rights to air Planes, Trains, & Automobiles on TCM.

"I am definitely laying claim to [being] the next Cary Grant, particularly his retired era," Reynolds joked to Mankiewicz in a clip from his interview shared exclusively with Entertainment Weekly.

Their conversation ran an hour over schedule and included such gems as Reynolds choosing the iconic screen duo that is most like him and his wife, Blake Lively.

"I would say The Thin Man series," he said, referring to stars William Powell and Myrna Loy. "Those two gave it to each other, and I love their dynamic and how well they played off [each other]. Myrna Loy is just one of my all-time favorite crushes though, so don't tell my wife."
