Ryan Reynolds Opens Up About Honoring Costar Rob Delaney's Late Son in “Deadpool & Wolverine” Credits
Delaney's son Henry died in 2018 from cancer, just a few months before the release of the 'Deadpool 2'
Ryan Reynolds is opening up about his decision to honor costar Rob Delaney's late son Henry in the credits for Deadpool vs. Wolverine.
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, Reynolds, 47, shared a carousel of photos featuring him and his costar on his Instagram as he took a moment to share the reason why he honored Henry in the end credits of his latest film.
The If actor began his post by praising Delaney's performance as Peter in the Deadpool films, joking his character "may be the new anchor being," before touching on how his costar, also 47, has dealt with grief.
"There’s more to @robdelaney than some realize. He’s one of the most subversively funny people I know. He’s a beautiful, acerbic and vulnerable writer," Reynolds continued. "If you stayed through the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine, you might notice a credit saying, 'For Henry Delaney.' Henry is Rob’s son. And Rob lost his little boy to a brain tumor in 2018. Right as we finished Deadpool 2."

Reynolds went on to say that he wished he'd placed a tribute at the end of Deadpool 2, and has long regretted his decision not to.
"If there’s a bright side, even more people are seeing Henry’s name in the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine. And at long last, father and son are sharing the same screen," Reynolds continued.
At the end of his caption, Reynolds shared that above all else he felt lucky to have a friend like Delaney.
"I’m lucky to know Rob. And I’m lucky to have friends willing to put themselves on the line to make others feel less alone. ????," he wrote.
In 2018, Delaney shared that his son had died after being diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016.
This past July, Delaney appeared on an episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna and opened up about sharing the memory of his son Henry.
"In 2018, my son Henry, he died of a brain tumor that he was diagnosed with right around his first birthday. And yeah, he died in the beginning of 2018 and he was just the sweetest little most wonderful guy," Delaney began.

Hoda Kotb told Delaney she's glad he wants to talk about his son since she knows the topic can be sensitive.
"No, I love to talk about him. He’s my son, I’m his dad. His brothers miss him, his mom misses him, and he’s part of our family, so I don’t know how to not talk about him," Delaney responded.
In 2022, Delaney wrote a book, A Heart That Works, honoring Henry's memory and sharing how he and his family have navigated their grief.
