Sabrina Carpenter Reveals She Cut Her Signature Bangs After 'First Real Heartbreak'
"I literally cut my bangs 'cause someone broke my heart," the singer says in a new interview with 'Vanity Fair'
Sabrina Carpenter is sharing the origin story behind her trademark beauty look.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the 25-year-old singer and actress said she first cut her signature fluffy curtain bangs after going through her "first real heartbreak."
"I literally cut my bangs 'cause someone broke my heart and I was just like, 'I have to do something,'" she told the outlet in a video released on Thursday, June 20. "I'm not usually one of those people that has to make rash decisions when their feelings are hurt but that was my first real heartbreak and so I guess it just sparked that initial like, 'I have to do something different.'"
While painting her self-portrait in the clip for Vanity Fair, the "Espresso" singer explained that when it came to a post-breakup beauty transformation, she wasn't interested in altering her natural hair color.
"I never wanted to dye my hair because I always felt comfortable as, you know, blonde, the way I was born," she said.

While Carpenter doesn't reveal who was responsible for her first heartbreak, fans might assume it's her former HighSchool Musical: The Musical: The Series costar, Joshua Bassett. The duo never confirmed a relationship, but they first sparked dating rumors in the summer of 2020. In early 2021, fellow castmate Olivia Rodrigo released her hit single "Driver's License, which many theorized was about Bassett.

Carpenter and Bassett both confirmed they were single in late 2021, and it was around this time that the "Please Please Please" singer revealed her bangs transformation.
Carpenter, whose over-blushed cheeks and pouty lip looks have made her something of a beauty icon in recent months, also shared that her levels of self-confidence are always in flux.
"I really think that the beauty of being this age is some days you can feel like truly borderline so conceited and obnoxiously confident," she said. "And then all it takes is someone saying one thing that just strikes a chord in you to be like, 'I'm actually the ugliest person to ever exist.' And then it kind of is a big flip-flop."
Ultimately though, the singer says she had "better things to worry about than the way that I look."

That doesn't stop fans from lusting after her glamorous beauty looks, though. The singer bumped up the glam for her new music video for "Please Please Please" (which stars her boyfriend Barry Keoghan), donning the perfect nude lipstick shade. Carpenter later revealed that she wore Prada's Moisturizing Lip Balm in the shade Astral Pink, which she's seen applying in the beginning of the video. The lipstick bullet appears appears a powdery blue, but it's formulated to adapt to the pH of an individual's lips, resulting in a rosy pink hue.
