Sacramento Walk of Stars ceremony celebrates newest honorees

(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento added to its Walk of Stars in a ceremony on Wednesday that celebrated the newest honorees, who were announced for the first time this spring.

The Sacramento Walk of Stars awarded a sidewalk star each to actor Merrin Dungey, philosopher and political activist Dr. Cornel West, NBA champion Bill Cartwright and civil rights leader Nathaniel Colley.

The ceremony took place along L St. and included appearances from West, Dungey and Cartwright. Colley, who died in 1992, was Sacramento’s first Black lawyer.

Dungey said to FOX40.com, “You can’t even imagine even in your wildest dreams that something like this could be possible…it’s truly remarkable and humbling.”

New Padel courts coming to West Sacramento

West, who is an independent presidential candidate in the current election, said to FOX40.com, “You can tell the sweetness of the spirit here is overwhelming, it’s a beautiful thing and I’m so deeply humbled.”

The organization also celebrated the honorees with a gala at the Memorial Auditorium.

The Handle District is a business district within the boundaries of 18th Street, 19th Street, L Street and Capitol Avenue.

Other notable people on the Walk of Stars include actor LeVar Burton, author Nicholas Sparks, former MLB manager Dusty Baker, and WNBA player Ruthie Bolton.
