Just three weeks after undergoing throat surgery, Sam Smith is back in the Boston area.
The “Stay with Me” crooner returned to the Bay State to undergo vocal therapy as part of his recovery from microsurgery.

But of course, Smith, 23, managed to sneak in a little sightseeing while in town. On Thursday, he headed north to the town of Salem, known as “Witch City.”
Dressed almost entirely in black, Smith was spotted checking out some of the most popular tourist spots in town, including the Salem Witch Museum to get a quick history lesson on the Salem Witch Trials.
“He was very low key, and came and went without detection,” one museum employee tells PEOPLE. “He was taller and thinner than we expected, and really came in under the radar.”
Smith’s next stop was the scenic seaside town of Rockport, where he headed down to the water and climbed around on the rocks.
“Rockport. I am completely in love with you,” he wrote on Instagram. For dinner on Thursday night, Smith and his crew headed to My Place by the Sea Restaurant on the tip of Bearskin Neck, where he dined on shrimp. “Turning into the best day ever,” he wrote on Instagram.
The previous evening, Smith and his father headed to the Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro, where they sat at a table in the bar area.
According to the staff, Smith sipped a vodka soda while chatting with his dad and a friend. That afternoon, the crooner also popped into chocolatier/café L.A. Burdick, where he enjoyed a dark hot chocolate made with almond milk.
But before his therapy session, Smith made sure to stop by and visit his physician at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Voice Center, Dr. Steven Zeitels, who performed the vocal chord microsurgery last month.
“You have truly saved me this past few months,” Smith captioned a photo featuring him and Dr. Zeitels.
