Sarah Jessica Parker Shares Political Message With Shout-Out to Carrie Bradshaw
Sarah Jessica Parker invoked her Sex and the City character and Taylor Swift while sending a bold political message ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw on the popular HBO show and its various film and TV spinoffs, provided a long list of reasons for why she has decided to vote a certain way heading into Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5. She posted those reasons alongside a photo of herself holding up a political sign on Instagram on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The 59-year-old actress began her caption by explaining she decided to back Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Harris’ running mate, Minnesota governor Tim Walz, “For the love of my country.” She then listed several other reasons for her endorsement, which included: “our public schools,” “books,” “common sense gun laws," “a living wage,” “opportunity,” “women,” “voting rights,” “the Dreamers,” “arts and culture,” “my mother and senior citizens,” “our military, past and currently serving,” “the climate,” “hope,” “friends and loved ones in the LGBTQ+ community,” “freedom,” “science,” “affordable healthcare,” “our union members,” “democracy,” “my daughters,” “my son,” “all of our children,” “equality,” “dignity,” “hope,” “the constitution,” “me,” “love,” and “choice.”
Parker ended her list with a nod to her Sex and the City character, whom she referred to as “a certain childless cat lady I play on TV.”
“With an abundance of joy, optimism and pride I am voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz,” Parker declared.
The photo featured in Wednesday’s post showed Parker photographed from behind as she held a Harris and Walz political sign up to a window. A cat peered around Parker to gaze at the camera from its sunny spot on the windowsill.
In addition to honoring her character’s love of cats, Parker’s Instagram post also referenced the memorable political message that Swift made when she endorsed Harris in early September. The 14-time Grammy Award winner, a known cat lover, signed off her own lengthy Sept. 10 Instagram post as a “Childless Cat Lady,” a phrase that Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance first coined while describing childless women back in 2021. The interview in which he made those comments resurfaced during the 2024 election cycle, with many voters backing the Harris-Walz campaign reclaiming the term as their own.
