Sarah Silverman blasts GOP hypocrisy for telling Taylor Swift to 'stay out of politics' but giving Kanye West 'a free ticket to the White House'

Sarah Silverman mentioned both Taylor Swift and Kanye West in a sentence — not to rehash the most dramatic celebrity feud of all time, but to make a point about Republicans.

In a teaser for her Hulu show, I Love You, America, the comedian touched on some of the most recent political topics ahead of the midterm elections — with typical Silverman flair. She took jabs at President Trump, Brett Kavanaugh, and the 52 percent of white women who voted for Trump. She then turned her attention toward young people because, she noted, only 23 percent of them voted in 2016 — but added that she hoped the number would go up thanks to an A-lister.

“I know you don’t want to hear this from me, your Auntie Sarah … so take it from buddy Taylor Swift. T.Swift has never been political before, but this week she went on Instagram and said she would vote for two Democrats in Tennessee. And it’s a very big deal, because Taylor has a massive amount of reach. She has 112 million Instagram followers. She’s not just a pop star. She has the following of two Italys.”

Silverman continued: “Republicans’ knee-jerk reaction, of course, is to tell her to stay out of politics. Hey, you can’t give Kanye a free ticket to the White House and then tell Taylor to stay in her lane. They are both tax-paying citizens. They can talk about whatever they want. You know who should shut up? Tax dodgers. Which would be great because then we wouldn’t have to hear from big, fat President Dumb S***.”

Kanye, likely rocking his favorite MAGA hat, was set to be at the White House on Thursday afternoon to meet with the president — first for the signing of the Music Modernization Act (along with Kid Rock), and then at a private lunch to discuss prison reform along with former NFL star Jim Brown, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner. Ahead of that, Trump talked Kanye in a telephone interview with Fox & Friends this morning, noting, “I like him a lot. He’s been a friend of mine. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a very different kind of a guy — I say that in a positive way. But he is a different kind of a guy. Those that are in the music business say that he is a genius. And that’s OK with me because as far as I’m concerned, he is.”

Kanye’s visit is such a big deal that the lunch menu has been released to the public ahead of time.

Meanwhile, Swift was slammed by Republicans after making her first political statement ever. Trump said he likes her music “25 percent less” after hearing she’s supporting Democrats. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee took a dig by suggesting her fans were a bunch of 13-year-old girls, too young to vote anyway. Regardless of their input, Swift has been credited with driving up voter registration — in Tennessee and across the country — in the days since she issued her political statement and shouted out Vote.org, where people can register or check voting status. And she used her platform again on Tuesday — onstage at the American Music Awards — to urge her fans to vote in the midterms.
