Saturday's Maybee Day expanded to celebrate village's 150th anniversary
MAYBEE – The village of Maybee’s year-long sesquicentennial celebration continues this weekend with the Maybee Day Festival, set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 13, throughout the village. Admission is free. The public is welcome.
All year, residents are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the village. A big anniversary event is planned for Sept. 22-23. Maybee Day, held traditionally the day before Mother’s Day, has been expanded in honor of this year's milestone anniversary.
Offered Saturday will be more than 40 vendors set up behind the fenced area near the bank. Flowers from two local farms will be sold in the parking lot of Little Brown Jug.
Free children’s activities include bounce houses, a small carnival with prizes, costumed characters, a petting zoo and a magician/juggler.
A book sale will take place in the Maybee Branch Library. Trolleys will take attendees to Stoneco for quarry tours. The Maybee Historical Museum will be open; it is located above the old town hall.
Also offered will be information from area nonprofit organizations and food trucks selling fair-style food and drinks.
Peg Harris Dance Studio of Monroe will offer a presentation at 11 a.m. The Brainjerk Entertainment Crave Case eating contest will take place at 2 p.m. in the band stage tent. The Big Boys of Comedy show will take place at 5 p.m. at the Lane’s Pizzeria tent.
Offered from noon to 4 p.m. will be live music by Dixie Highway, Tyler's Exotics petting zoo, face painting and a magician/juggler. Costumed characters from Addie’s Closet Parties will hold shows and meet-and-greets at noon and 2 and 4 p.m.
Open will be area restaurants, including Charlene’s Curbside Café, Laine’s Pizzeria, Little Brown Jug and Next Door Lounge.
In honor of Mabyee's sesquicentennial, souvenirs with logos will be sold, including T-shirts, shot glasses and ornaments. Attendees also can purchase commemorative bricks for the village hall courtyard.
