Sean Penn and daughter Dylan got into a two-hour standoff on the set of their new film

On The Late Show With Stephen Colbert Thursday, Dylan Penn — the actress-model daughter of Sean Penn and Robin Wright — described what it was like working with her father on the new film Flag Day. Sean directed the movie and also stars alongside Dylan, who apparently wasn’t afraid to get into some on-set battles with the boss.

“We had one major, I think it was a two-hour standoff about a note that he had,” Dylan recalled. “About whether I could wear, or not wear, mascara.”

Colbert, who pointed out that it seems like the kind of argument a father has with his daughter when she is 12 years old, asked if they took the matter into a private setting or laid it all out in front of the crew. And Dylan said it was all very public.

“Once it was clear that she was making the wrong decision, I just went and sat down,” Sean added. “And then the silence was one the crew had to live with for two hours while the Penns figured it out.”

The film marks the first time Sean has worked with Dylan and also his son, Hopper. And it sounds like it may not be the last time they work together, especially because Dylan, who is also an aspiring director, wants the chance to direct her dad one day.

“I want to flip it around,” she said. “It’s my turn.”

Dylan also revealed what her favorite performances are that Sean has turned in throughout his 40+ year career of making films.

"I think it's tied," she said. "I Am Sam and Milk are like, tied for me."

And if you were hoping Sean's role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High would have made her list, you are not alone because Colbert was hoping for that as well. But as Dylan said, she sees someone else when she watches that movie.

"I see my brother."

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
