Seth Rogen on Choosing to Live a 'Double Life’ as a ‘Balding’ Actor
Seth Rogen stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night to chat with Kimmel’s guest host, Step Brothers star Kathryn Hahn, about choosing to live a “double life” as a “balding” actor.
When Hahn turned the interview over to Kimmel’s sidekick, Guillermo, he asked the 42-year-old Pineapple Express star how he’s maintained his movie star looks into middle age.
“I use Rogaine with Minoxidil,” Rogen admitted, adding that “it’s helped a lot, honestly.”
“My hair is thicker than the last time I was on this show,” Rogen marveled. “It’s thinning in the back. That’s a big moment as a male actor. You show up in the hair trailer one day and then they go, ‘Do you want us to fill it in a little bit?’”
Rogen continued: “In that moment, you are choosing if you want to live a double life as a man who plays a non-balding man in film and television but who himself is a balding man.”
The Neighbors actor admitted to feeling an immediate identity crisis when posed with the question.
“I remember being confronted with that moment and all of a sudden all the ramifications started to spin out of control in my head. Then people will always think, ‘He has less hair than I thought he would. He seems to have a full head of hair in his films, but he’s balding in real life,’” Rogen explained as the audience laughed.
“So I said, ‘No,’” he said of the decision to paint in the lighter spots on his scalp.
“A man of standards and integrity,” Hahn congratulated Rogen, as the actor bent over and displayed his small balding patch to the audience.
“That was a mark of bravery,” Rogen said of his reveal.
“No, truly, it is,” Hahn agreed.
Rogen is currently on the promotion circuit for his new Amazon Prime Video series Sausage Party: Foodtopia, which is streaming now. Foodtopia continues the raunchy universe established in Rogen’s 2016 feature Sausage Party, which concerned a group of anthropomorphic, amorously inclined grocery items which come to life when the store closes.
