Sexyy Red Continues Presidential Campaign In 2024 BET Awards Performance
Sexyy Red is only 26 years old, but she is very serious about her Presidential campaign. The St. Louis star made her case during her 2024 BET Awards Performance.
She opened with a glamorous performance of “U My Everything,” though the Drake-assisted record did not include an appearance by the Toronto superstar. Sexyy Red sported a red ensemble and was backed by a live band and dancers who wore red dresses. They also performed the popular TikTok dance associated with the record.
The performance transitioned into a quick dance break, during which men in suits cut a rug to her 2023 hit “SkeeYee” as the “Sexyy Red For President 2024” symbol appeared on the stage’s floor. Women in scantily clad blazers and skirts joined the men as Sexyy gave an energetic performance of her latest hit “Get It Sexyy.” Staying true to what people love her for, she twerked all over the stage as the crowd reciprocated her hype energy.
It has been a big year for Sexyy Red. She released her latest mixtape, In Sexyy We Trust, in May with features from Drake, Lil Baby, Mike WiLL Made-It, and VonOff1700. The project debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 and sold 27,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.
Though she has ascended in popularity, Jermaine Dupri felt her underwhelming first-week sales were a sign of the music industry changing for the worse. “People gotta stop lying,” JD told Steve Stoute at SelectCon in Atlanta. “The industry still tries to make you believe that if you’re a hot artist with a single, album sales don’t matter […] In the era that I came into the music industry if you sold 28,000 copies, you didn’t get another chance to walk in the building […] There’s such a disconnect between understanding streaming and what you’re actually looking at.”
Outside of music, Sexyy Red debuted on WWE television at the end of May. She appeared on an episode of WWE NXT, where she revealed the new WWE NXT Women’s North American championship and announced that she would host their Battleground event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. She also accompanied WWE NXT Champion Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans to their main event tag team match against Scottish faction Gallus.
