Shark Week Hits Snapchat With New Show
We are less than a week away from the July 23 start of Discovery’s Shark Week, but the network is prepping for another premiere that day: the launch of SHARK WEEK on Snapchat, a new short-form series created exclusively for Snapchat’s Discover platform.
Comedian Jordan Carlos hosts the show, which is comprised of three episodes (each one will remain on the platform for two days). Day 1 kicks off with “Sharks, They’re Just Not That Into You,” in which Carlos details five reasons why, contrary to popular belief, sharks aren’t naturally attracted to humans as prey. As you see in the screengrab above, he starts with the fact that “we’ve never been on the menu,” since sharks survived roughly 444 million years before humans were even on the planet.
The second episode of the series, “Nature’s Biggest Badasses,” explores how sharks have survived all five mass extinctions and evolved to become the ocean’s most dangerous predator. It’s informative and fun, and not just because Carlos really gets into tossing asteroids at the planet.
The series concludes with “These Sharks Shouldn’t Exist,” a look at so-called alien sharks from the deep, including the wobbegong, swell shark, and goblin shark. If you’re a fan of alien sharks, Shark Week 2017 has your fix with Alien Sharks: Stranger Fins (airing July 24 at 10 p.m.).
Shark Week premieres July 23 at 7 p.m. on Discovery.
