Sheikha Jawaher Embraces Burgundy Trend in Custom Jean Paul Gaultier for State Dinner at Buckingham Palace
Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad Al Thani modeled one of fall’s trendiest hues while attending a state dinner at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday. She’s visiting the country with her husband, Qatar’s emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Sheikha Jawaher selected a custom embroidered long-sleeve gown by Jean Paul Gaultier, who is reportedly one of her mother-in-law’s favorite designers. She added on a matching velvet cape, completing her look with jeweled drop earrings, a smokey eye and a rose-mauve lip.

Sheikh Tamim, meanwhile, wore traditional Qatari garb, including a gray thobe, a long tunic-like shirt, as well as a black robe called a bisht.
The royal couple arrived in London on Monday, where they were greeted by King Charles III, Queen Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales. Kate Middleton donned a custom coatdress — also in a shade of maroon — by Alexander McQueen.
Sheikha Jawaher and Sheikh Tamim married in 2005. They share four children: Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Tamim Al Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Tamim Al Thani, Sheikha Aisha bint Tamim Al Thani and Sheikh Jassim bin Tamim Al Thani.
Sheikha Jawaher has been known to wear Dior designs, sporting the label at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in 2023. The Qatari royal selected an embroidered gown from Dior’s fall 2022 haute couture line.
More recently, she sported an ivory Dior skirt suit to greet Queen Maxima of The Netherlands. Her structured set evoked the fashion house’s iconic “new look,” pioneered by designer Christian Dior in the 1940s. The silhouette consists of an accentuated waistline and a flared calf-length skirt.
Shades of maroon are poised for popularity after being spotted on the runways of Gucci, Saint Laurent and Victoria Beckham during the fall 2024 runway season. Stars have also taken to the trend, with Keke Palmer, Lily Collins and others bringing burgundy to the red carpet.
