Shenandoah pair with Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan to reimagine 'Sunday In The South'

Georgia natives Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan's recent all-genre Billboard chart-topping and 30-time No. 1 success have not strayed them far from their musical roots.

Look no further than the duo pairing with timeless Grammy, Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association award-winning country act Shenandoah for a revived version of their 1989 No. 1 country hit "Sunday in the South."

"Recording one of the staples in our set list with a couple of country boys like Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan couldn't have been a better fit," says Shenandoah lead singer Marty Raybon.

Shenandoah recorded the Noah Gordon-produced track at Alabama's legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals. Bryan's vocals were recorded courtesy of his frequent producers, Jeff and Jody Stevens, while Aldean's arrive via three-decade veteran Nashville producer Mickey Jack Cones.

In 1989, the song took three months to hit the top of Billboard's country charts by late August.

"Sunday In The South" follows another 1989 Shenandoah hit, "Two Dozen Roses," being re-recorded with Luke Combs in 2023.

"People would send us videos of him performing the song live and we thought, 'How cool would it be to have Luke record the song with us?'" Shenandoah lead singer Marty Raybon told Billboard upon its release.

"It appears 'Two Dozen Roses' is as big as it ever was and having Luke's vocal on there just proves the timelessness of what folks have felt about this song for years."

In Sept. 2023, Aldean and Raybon were present as Luke Bryan celebrated achieving 30 No. 1 singles at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl.

One of the afternoon's highlights was when Shenandoah's Raybon performed.

Bryan frequently cites the band's hits "Next to You" and "Church on Cumberland Road" as keys to his musical development.

A statement by Aldean about the look of sheer joy on Bryan's face upon seeing Raybon perform highlights how mutual the respect is between the artists:

"Luke had an icon celebrating him and not the other way around."
