Sibling rivalry sets the stage for epic battle in 'House of the Dragon'
In Episode 2 of HBO’s House of the Dragon, aptly titled The Rogue Prince, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) made a power play against his brother, King Viserys (Paddy Considine). Daemon had stolen a dragon’s egg and taken it to Dragonstone, planning to place it in the cradle beside his unborn child, which will be born from a woman not of royal bloodlines, or so he would have the royal council believe. King Viserys sent men to retrieve it, but there was one thing none of them were counting on: Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and her dragon.
“I’m right here, uncle, the object of your ire. The reason that you were disinherited,” Rhaenyra said to Daemon. “If you wish to be restored as heir, you’ll need to kill me. So do it, and be done with all this bother.”
Daemon handed the dragon’s egg, or rather, tossed it to Rhaenyra, but that wasn't the end of it. The prince would later find himself with Lord Corlys Velaryon, aka the “Sea Snake” (Steve Toussaint), who would also like to see the reign of King Viserys come to an end. Though Daemon pushed back against what Corlys had to say about his brother, Corlys made a convincing argument leading into Episode 3.
“We are the realm’s second sons, Daemon,” Corlys said. “Our worth is not given, it must be made.”
House of the Dragon airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
