'An Evening with Silk Sonic': Silk Sonic's Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak finally drop new album
Good news: Silk Sonic's highly-anticipated album is finally here after months of teases.
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak released "An Evening With Silk Sonic" Friday, eight months after releasing their first hit single "Leave The Door Open." The collaboration project contains nine tracks of nostalgic, bass-heavy rhythms often narrated by the legendary Funkadelic frontman Bootsy Collins, and includes a feature from Thundercat.
"YOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! THE ALBUMS OUT EVERYWHERE!," Mars posted on Instagram with blurry photos of him and his Silk Sonic partner.
.Paak posted the same photos writing, "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I DONT EVEN HAVE WORDS FOR HOW I FEEL, LIFE HAS BEEN A BLUR!! I LOVE YOU."
Here's everything we know about the group and the new album.

Who is Silk Sonic? What to know about Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak
Iconic funk legend Collins named the duo Silk Sonic. Mars is a Grammy Award-winning singer known for hit songs like "Just The Way You Are” and “Grenade," and .Paak is a hip-hop icon who first stoked anticipation with his 2016 breakthrough album "Malibu."
The collaboration was organic, Mars told Apple Music's Zane Lowe in March. Mars said he called .Paak on his birthday and told him to come to the studio to record and .Paak showed up drunk because, well, it was his 25th birthday.
"It snowballed. And it was like, well, want to come back tomorrow? And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy. … There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other," Mars said.
The musical supergroup made its debut TV performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards later that month.
Collins' role as the album's narrator brings in what Mars describes as an "iconic voice."
"He represents what a superstar is," Mars said in a March interview with Sirius XM Hits 1. "We grew up listening to that, and he's got that iconic voice…We needed a real OG to host it."

When did the album release?
The group's debut album, "An Evening With Silk Sonic," arrived Nov. 12.
In August, Silk Sonic announced that the album was "in touch-up mode" and wouldn't be arriving until 2022. But on Oct. 8, in celebration of Mars' birthday, they changed course and said the album would arrive in November.
"#SilkSonic ALBUM OUT NOVEMBER 12!!!!" the band tweeted at the time.
Mars and .Paak confirmed earlier this year that the album is finished.
“We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic," Mars wrote on Instagram in February. Similarly, .Paak also broke the news to his followers.
"WE MADE AN ALBUM!!" .Paak announced. "ROCKET EMOJIS AND ALL THAT!!!"
Mars teased that working on the album made him feel "like being a kid again."
"Growing up playing music, you lock yourself in the garage with your friend, Andy on drums, me on the guitar, working out the parts and just trying to write the best songs we possibly can. And hopefully if we like it, then the world is gonna like it," he said in the SiriusXM interview.
'Leave the Door Open': Songs released so far
Before "Skate," Silk Sonic released their first single, "Leave the Door Open" in March. In the music video, .Paak is on the drums and Mars on the piano, and the duo are backed by a full band on bass, a conga drum and percussion instruments – all dressed in looks that give off that signature retro feel.
"Leave The Door Open" gives smooth, old school, love song vibes per Anita Baker, who would know a thing or two about a soulful romantic love song, and social media quickly jumped on board.
@Deeclectic tweeted in March: "oh okay.. this Bruno Mars and Pak (sic) is dope. such wholesome vibes."
Some fans were excited that Mars, who hasn't released an album since 2016's "24K Magic," returned with new music.
"BRUNO MARS IS BACK," tweeted @horandowney.
In July, the duo dropped "Skate."
The music video opens with Mars and .Paak playing the drums outside as women roller-skate and dance around them. "Skate" offers viewers that '70s feel-good nostalgia to make them feel as if they're gliding, slipping and sliding into the summer.
"I'm tryna roll, I'm tryna ride/I'm tryna float, I'm tryna glide/No, no, don’t be shy, just take my hand and hold on tight," Mars croons in the chorus.
A week before releasing the full album Silk Sonic gave fans one more taste with the release of their third single and music video: "Smokin Out The Window." The smooth, sultry track features Collins, Mars and .Paak as they complain about an unloyal love interest.
