What 'Simple Life' stars Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie looked like together then … and now
Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are a long way from the farm these days.
The former stars of The Simple Life reunited Sunday at the Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards, where both presented awards to designers. Longtime friends Hilton, 37, and Richie, 36, have stayed close since their days on the show, which ran for five seasons from 2003 to 2007. Well, at least in the way that counts.
As Richie explained on Watch What Happens Live in July 2014, they don’t speak often, and photos prove that they’re not hitting the clubs together like they were, say, a decade or so ago.
“Paris is somebody that’s been in my life since day one,” Richie, who’s famously the daughter of singer Lionel Richie, said. “I haven’t spoken to her in a while technically, but if you really want to get into it, my view of a friendship is somebody that you don’t necessarily have to talk to every day, [but] somebody that you can call when you need them and they’re just going to be there. Time of whether I’ve spoken to somebody … it doesn’t really matter, in my opinion. An idea of a true friend is somebody that’s going to be there with you through and through.
“The short answer is I haven’t spoken to her in a while, but we are very good friends and I love her and love her family and have a lot of respect for her,” Richie continued. (It’s notable that there was a time when Hilton and Richie weren’t speaking, and supposedly their show ended because of it, but their rift was obviously a thing of the past when Richie did the interview.)
In the same interview, Richie explained that she had no regrets about the crazy times she publicly shared with Hilton.
“The Simple Life was the most fun time of my life,” she raved. “I was 20, and I had a television network, which was Fox, come up to me and say, ‘Do you wanna take a trip for 28 days and get paid for it?’ I was like, ‘OK!’ It was great. It was like backpacking. It was with your best friend and you got paid for it and it was fun. It was so much fun!”
Still, Richie, who’s since become a designer, wife to rocker Joel Madden, and the mother to two children, daughter Harlow, 10, and 8-year-old son Sparrow, has completely revamped her image from her days as Hilton’s sidekick. She’s now known as a sophisticated, stylish celeb with friends including Gwyneth Paltrow and sister-in-law Cameron Diaz.
Hilton has since become a deejay, continued to push her brands, including her perfumes, and gotten engaged to model and actor Chris Zylka.
Last month, she said she’s been approached about rebooting the show, but she’s not interested.
“They’ve been talking about it and they asked me,” Hilton told ET. “I feel like I had so much fun doing it, but I’m focusing on all my businesses and really wouldn’t have time to go over to a farm again and do that. But it was so much fun, and it’s such a hilarious show. I still watch it. It’s fun that everyone’s enjoying it, and it’d be amazing for it to come back.”
The two have had impromptu Simple Life reunions in the past, and it could happen again at Hilton’s sure-to-be-lavish upcoming nuptials. Hilton confirmed to ET that Richie and another famous friend, Britney Spears, will be invited to the ceremony. She has also said her former assistant turned reality TV queen Kim Kardashian will be invited.
Can you imagine how many photos will be snapped?
