'Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror' gets a 'Coraline'-inspired look and Neil Gaiman's voice
On The Simpsons‘ 28th “Treehouse of Horror” Halloween special, when Maggie wasn’t possessed Exorcist style and Homer wasn’t cannibalizing himself, the cartoon family was given a Coraline CGI makeover, and author Neil Gaiman played the Cat. As Gaiman the Cat (aka Snowball) lured Lisa into a small door that she had never seen before, Snowball suddenly was able to talk, much like the Cat in Coraline. “Sometimes tiny doors lead to big opportunities,” he said.
After Lisa went through the tunnel and out another tiny door, she walked into the shiny CGI Coraline world, where she met her “other” family, who were pretty terrifying considering the buttons that were sewn over their eyes. But Maggie quickly opted for the buttons when she remembered how terrible her regular family was.
Marge and Bart were also lured into the tunnel and adopted the button eyes as well. Eventually, Homer couldn’t help but follow suit, and though he found this new Coraline world a bit intimidating at first, he quickly felt at ease.
The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
