Singer Walker Hayes Mourns Tragic and Untimely Loss of Family's Beloved Dog

Posting on Instagram Hayes wrote, in part, "We’re so sad. Hazel got hit by a car today. I am so grateful the young man who hit her had the courage to knock on our door and let us know. Despite the circumstances I was blown away by his kindness. I didn’t even get his name so if you are him. Thank you."

As horrible as that must have been you have to commend the person who accidentally hit Hazel going to the door to let the family know. So often people just drive off after an accident like this and that's so much harder for a person to heal from.

Hayes continued, "Hazel was coping mechanism we purchased after losing our seventh child, Oakleigh. We knew we couldn’t replace what we had lost but Hazel was something to hold. Something to wake up with in the middle of the night, etc. I know…maybe not the healthiest answer to grief but we sure fell in love with her. Her favorite place to sit was in a pile of laundry fresh out of the dryer."

The couples seventh child and fourth daughter, Oakleigh Klover Hayes, died shortly after birth on June 6, 2018.

This is so heartbreaking for the family. Our hearts go out to them after the loss of their beloved Hazel.

Ways to Heal After the Loss of a Pet

Losing a dog is one of the most heartbreaking experiences a pet owner can ever have, and there are many ways you can commemorate the life your precious pup lived and all the joy and love they brought you.

Certain parks have a rainbow bridge where dog owners can place the collar or tags of a dog that has passed. This is a lovely way you can remember your pup and pay homage to all the other beloved dogs who have passed.

You can plant a memorial garden in your yard and place a stone or path marker with your pups name on it.

You can create a memory book filled with beautiful photos of your dog.

You can light a candle in your dog's honor on their birthday, holidays, or whenever it brings you comfort.

You can adopt or foster a dog in honor or your pet, or make a donation in their name to your local animal shelter or Humane Society.

Losing a beloved dog is never easy, but in time the pain will subside a bit and you will be left with more memories of the joy they brought you then with tears.
