Slayer’s Gary Holt Makes a Bold Declaration About Taylor Swift

There's no shortage of opinions when it comes to Taylor Swift, particularly since she skyrocketed to another level of fame upon embarking on her wildly popular Eras Tour. However, Slayer's Gary Holt recently made a bold declaration about the pop superstar that might surprise his fans.

During an interview with Scandalous Podcast published on July 16, Holt, 60, dished on his opinion of Swift, 34.

"I love Taylor Swift. Why all the hate?" Holt said in response to host Ashley Steinmetz asking him to address "the Taylor Swift problem."

"She's an extraordinarily hard worker. She's super f---ing nice to everybody, and people hate her," Holt continued. "She's just the biggest pop star on Earth, and more power to her. I like the songs. I love pop. I listen to pop mostly in the car, you know, I don't listen to metal."

"I love women, I support women. But I will just defend my stance on it. It's great, it's fine. But the songwriting credit and the depth of that just sounds really vapid to me," Steinmetz replied, noting she prefers artists like Halsey. "...I just do think that a lot of her music is very glittery."

To that, Hold argued, "Taylor writes everything. And so I give her credit. She's a songwriter. And some of these other people require massive teams...she's a good person on top of that."

In the comments, YouTube users seemed divided. One wrote, "It was hard to listen to him defend Swift."

Someone else, however, appreciated Holt's take, writing, "He is so right about her talent of songwriting and her personality. I would recommend folklore and evermore to the interviewer. Her songs are not that glittery at all. Also, didn't like she phrased the question as 'taylor swift problem.' As if liking her songs is kind of problem. She expected Gary to say bad things about her, very unfortunate."

Swift wrapped up her third and final show in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and will perform two back-to-back concerts in Hamburg on July 23 and 24 before traveling to Munich for shows on July 27 and 28.
