Smash originally premiered on NBC in 2012. The series ran for 32 episodes and, in its relatively short run, it won a Critics Choice Television Award, a GLAAD Media Award, and received five Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, winning for Outstanding Choreography. The series also received both Golden Globe and Grammy Award nominations.

In addition to its three leads, other series stars included Christian Borle (Legally Blonde: The Musical, Some Like It Hot), Jaime Cepero (Daddy), Will Chase (Rent: Filmed Live On Broadway, Nashville), Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean films), Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls, Hairspray Live!, Cats), Anjelica Huston (Prizzi’s Honor, The Addams Family), Raza Jaffrey (Homeland), Brian d’Arcy James (Shrek: The Musical, Something Rotten), Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, The Great Gatsby), Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening), Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Story, Purlie Victorious), Krysta Rodriguez (Spring Awakening, The Addams Family) and Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction).

Last year, it was announced that Smash would be going to Broadway. A stage musical adaptation from producers Robert Greenblatt, Neil Meron and Steven Spielberg is slated to open on Broadway in 2025.

A top flight creative team is attached, including director Susan Stroman, composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, book writers Rick Elice and Bob Martin, and the TV series’ choreographer Joshua Bergasse.
