Snoop Dogg Basks In The Successes Of His Former Youth Football League Players
Snoop Dogg has a lot to be proud of these days, as he recently reflected on the successful career paths of a dozen athletes he used to coach. While making a recent appearance on Nick Cannon’s Tubi show Big Drive, the West Coast Hip-Hop legend basked in the current successes of his former Snoop Youth Football League players.
“We got 12 kids in the NFL, we have 100 in division 1, we expecting to put out three or four this year to the NFL,” he began. “We have over 100 in high school about to graduate in the next two years. We’re doing our part.”
Outside of sports, Snoop also shared that some of his alum have gone on to different fields of interest.
“We have a Rhode scholar, some lawyers, some doctors, police officers,” he continued. “A lot of different kinds of kids that come out of my league and with us being able to get into their lives from a different perspective.”
Snoop Dogg founded the non-profit SYFL in 2005 with aim to help inner-city kids between the ages of five and 13 sharpen their skills on the field, while also emphasizing academics.
Former SYFL player and now Houston Texan star quarterback, C.J. Stroud, shouted out Snoop as “one of [his] biggest role models and mentors,” in an interview with PEOPLE last month.
“He used to invite us to his house and things like that,” Stroud recalled. “That goes a long way. It just seemed like it is more than where you come from. There’s a lot more to life and he showed us that… So definitely really appreciative and grateful for Coach Snoop and everything that he’s done.”
During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show in the same month, Snoop returned the love to Stroud, saying that he feels like a “proud father.”
“He’s so positive,” Snoop said at the time. “That’s what I like about him is that he’s pushing a different narrative than a lot of these other guys in the league. He’s pushing a real narrative of spirit love and just being a voice of positivity.”
