Sofia Vergara gives a Golden Buzzer to Legion on ‘AGT’ [WATCH]

On June 11, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 continued with the third installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. During “Auditions 3,” Sofia Vergara differed from the other judges because the Malambo dance of Legion was not new to her as a South American, but still they were “spectacular” enough to earn her top prize. Watch the full performance in the video above.

The men of Legion explained to the judges that they are an Argentinian Malambo company that rehearses their dance routines extracurricularly to their “real jobs.” With the money should they win, they told Simon Cowell they want their own studio because they’ve been preparing in the backyard of a members’ parents backyard. Malambo is a traditional folk dance where the boots of the dancers are lit on fire, which turned out to shock the judges when it was revealed at the start of their performance.

Following the thrilling routine that displayed quick step rhythm, drumming, and tricks with whips and knives that were also set on fire, the judges and audience erupted in a thunderous ovation. Howie Mandel called their act “very unexpected and very surprising” and Heidi Klum wanted them to know that she was “feeling every bit of” the dance she had never seen before. Simon explained that seeing groups from around the world with acts that he can “genuinely see in Vegas” is why the show is so important to him. The audience thought they might have to boo Sofia when she began to say that she’s seen the dance before, but that turned a corner when she called them “spectacular” and in an act of appreciation for where she comes from and giving them an opportunity she hit the Golden Buzzer.

As the fifth golden buzzer act of the season, Legion will skip the next cut and advance straight to the live shows. They join singer Liv Warfield and drone artists Sky Elements who both received the Golden Buzzer from Simon over the course of “Auditions 2” and comedian Learnmore Jonasi and singer Richard Goodall who were chosen for the honor by Terry and Heidi, respectively, during “Auditions 1.”
