Sophia Bush Joins Grey’s Anatomy in Recurring Role — Watch Her Video Reveal
Sophia Bush — whose last major TV gig was as CBS’ Good Sam — once again is playing doctor, on ABC’s long-running Grey’s Anatomy.
As reported by Deadline and confirmed by TVLine, Bush will debut Thursday, Nov. 7 in the recurring role of Dr. Cass Beckman, a slightly-“messy around the edges” trauma surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian Hospital.

Cass’ husband David is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Grey Sloan, though it’s unclear if he is also being cast.
In addition to Good Sam‘s single-season run (its sets can now be spied on Matlock, FYI!), Bush’s TV credits include, of course, One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D., plus Love Victor, Nip/Tuck and CBS’ Partners sitcom.
Bush is also attached to co-star in and executive-produce the One Tree Hill sequel series now in development at Netflix.
Interesting fact: Bush’s OTH co-stars, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz, also have appeared on Grey’s — as Dr. Lauren Boswell (in Season 9) and domestic abuse victim Jenny (in Season 14).
Bush shared a video on Instagram, showing her slipping into Cass’ scrubs:
Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 brought back Jason George as Ben Warren, in the wake of Station 19‘s cancellation, while Kali Rocha (after a 17-year absence) has scrubbed back in as Dr. Sydney Heron for multiple episodes, and Michael Thomas Grant (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) will recur as James, the hospital’s new, gay chaplain.
Also on the casting front, Jake Borelli and Midori Francis are no longer series regulars, as Dr. Levi Schmitt and surgical intern Dr. Mika Yasuda.
