South Park mocks Colin Kaepernick with new national anthem

Colin Kaepernick gets mocked by South Park in the upcoming season premiere (the 20th!) of the iconic Comedy Central series.

Below is a teaser video from the show’s return Wednesday night, where the Colorado mountain town performs a new version of the national anthem that’s inspired by the San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback and his controversial kneeling protest against “The Star-Spangled Banner”:

The new season consists of 10 episodes, a shortened schedule that started in 2013 that has seemed to creatively boost the show. Last year, EW declared the 19th season “the best South Park season in a decade” during an inspired arc tackling political correctness.

Kaepernick began his high-profile protest during the pre-season. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he told the NFL Media in August. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Since his initial protest, a number of other NFL players have joined the quarterback. On Sunday, during kickoff for the 2016-17 NFL season, players from the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and New England Patriots, among others, protested in various ways during the anthem.
