Southside Johnny postpones City Winery shows in New York City

Jersey music legend Southside Johnny is taking the weekend off.

The two Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes shows in New York — scheduled for Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, at the City Winery — have been postponed and are being rescheduled.

Southside Johnny Lyon, 75, exited the stage an hour into his Feb. 17 show at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. He was taken to the hospital and treated for dehydration. He was doing “fine” the day after the show, said spokesman James Sliman.

“Everyone just felt it best if Southside Johnny took a few days off to rest, away from his usual grueling schedule,” said Sliman via email on the City Winery shows.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes play Feb. 16 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. It was the first of two shows celebrating the venue's 50th anniversary.

Ticket holders have received an email notification about the postponements, with info about the refund process, said a spokesperson for City Winery via email.

The Early Elton Trio, which performs early Elton John material, will play City Winery in New York City at 8 p.m. on March 1. The trio features two Asbury Jukes members: Jeff Kazee and John Conte.

“City Winery NYC has a last minute cancellation and we are stepping in to help,” said the Early Elton Trio on social media.

The March 2 Southside Johnny show at City Winery was postponed last weekend; the March 1 show was postponed on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Lyon fell ill during the second of back-to-back concerts at the Pony, celebrating the club's 50th anniversary. The landmark Asbury Park venue opened on Feb. 8, 1974, and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes were the Pony's first house band.

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes' next show is Friday, April 12, at the Newton Theatre in Newton. The band plays Saturday, June 29, on the beach in Seaside Heights, with the Rascals opening.
