'Space Jam': LeBron, Looney Tunes put new spin on classic board games
Looks like Hasbro has a literal monopoly on must-have Space Jam board games. Yahoo Entertainment is exclusively unveiling two new editions of classic tabletop franchises pegged to the release of the highly-anticipated sequel, Space Jam: A New Legacy. Due in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16, the film features basketball superstar LeBron James hitting three-pointers alongside classic Looney Tunes characters like Bugs, Daffy and Lola.
And James is featured alongside his animated co-stars on the boxes for Space Jam-themed versions of Monopoly ($24.99) and Connect 4 Shots ($19.99), which hit most major retailers shelves, including Amazon, on April 29.
As you'll notice, Space Jam Monopoly mixes some hoops into the gameplay, as players compete to enlist fan favorite Looney Tunes characters like Tweety and Marvin the Martian onto their teams. (Comedian Gabriel Iglesias will be happy to know that Speedy Gonzalez — whom he voices in the film — hasn't been canceled from the board game.) Shoot your shot whenever you land on a "Hoop" space, and gain buzzer-beating extra points that count towards your game end total.
Keep practicing your aim with the Space Jam edition of Connect 4 Shots, which speeds up the pace of the vintage stacking game. Suit up as either the Tune Squad or the Goon Squad and launch your ball at the game board, while also making strategic use of the metallic multiplayer ball to change your score. First player to connect four circles in a row claims championship status.
As Porky Pig might say, "Th-th-th-that's your game night, folks!"
Hasbro's Space Jam: A New Legacy Monopoly and Connect 4 Shots games will be available April 29 at most major retailers, including Amazon.
