‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’ Reveals 2024 Cover Models for 60th Anniversary Issues
As it celebrates its 60th anniversary, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit has announced its 2024 cover models, including some of the most iconic faces in the brand’s history.
Most notable is the inclusion of legacy SI Swim model Kate Upton, who made waves upon her 2012 Swim debut. “The unexpected backlash over her body type prompted the brand to reevaluate who should be featured on future covers,” the outlet reflected. “It feels fitting to have the catalyst for so much change back in a publication that now celebrates women from all walks of life, like a homecoming.”

Chrissy Teigen is marking her second stint as a cover model, though it’s her ninth Swim appearance overall. Teigen also graced the cover of the magazine’s 50th issue in 2014.

Hunter McGrady was discovered in 2016 through SI Swim’s Model Search, and is making her cover debut this year. She told People that she shot her cover just eight months after giving birth. “It was such a surreal moment,” McGrady said. “I automatically thought back to little me and what that would mean to me, seeing somebody like me on the cover of any magazine, let alone Sports Illustrated Swimsuit. It's huge.”

Arguably this year’s most surprising addition, and one which likely hopes to capitalize on the success of Martha Stewart’s cover last year, is that of broadcaster Gayle King. Best known for co-hosting CBS Mornings, King “represents a multifaceted woman of color, whose success, work ethic and humility impress us every day,” the brand raved. “Her SI Swimsuit cover is a sign that women from all walks of life must not only be seen and heard, but also celebrated.”

In addition to its four cover models, SI Swim brought back even more legacy models for a three-part cover shoot celebrating the magazine's legacy. Along with Brooklyn Decker, Paulina Porizkova, and Camilla Kostek, some of Swim’s most recognizable faces, Winnie Harlow, Nina Agdal, and Paige Spiranac, will be featured.
“We created three covers," Swim editor MJ Day explained, "a triptych that speaks to the collective strength, power, beauty, and diversity that is what SI Swimsuit looks like at 60. Sure, it looks back on history. But more significantly, it’s a window into the present—where we are right now—and a hope for the future.”
