Stagecoach 2024: The Chainsmokers perform a fun set for country, EDM fans alike
If you thought dance and electronic music doesn't have a place alongside country music, the organizers of Stagecoach would like you to think again.
The festival added electronic DJ duo The Chainsmokers to its lineup just a day before the festival was set to begin. Inviting artists in this genre isn't atypical — Diplo's HonkyTonk is an enclosed tent on the festival grounds dedicated to electronic dance and pop music, and that's where you'll find people both line dancing and fist bumping throughout the day.
Other surprise additions were Dasha, who was added to Dillon Francis and Ship Wrek's set on Friday, and Marshmello, who will be performing with Diplo on Sunday. Dasha made a surprise appearance again on Saturday, when she came on stage during Brandi Cyrus' DJ set to sing and dance to her hit "Austin" and Miley Cyrus' "Hoedown Throwdown."
It was a stuffed audience in Diplo's HonkyTonk for The Chainsmokers. They played remixes of country songs, like "Mean" and "Our Song" by Taylor Swift. Of course, there were EDM songs like "Prada" by Raye, Cass? and D-Block Europe, and their own songs like "Roses," "Something Just Like This" and "Closer."
Shaboozey made a surprise appearance and sang along to his popular song "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." The Chainsmokers' Instagram post about it afterward makes it appear that even they didn't know the country artist, who you may recognize from his features on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, was coming on stage.
The audience's excitement was palpable — people were screaming lyrics and dancing with their hands in the air. There wasn't much room for anyone to move near the stage, though people still managed with drinks in hand in order to reach their friends and enjoy the set together.
Diplo's HonkyTonk is a clear testament to fans dedicated to multiple music genres and want to rave in their cowboy hats.
