Stephen Colbert ‘Late Show’ Debut: Competitors Wish Him Well, Or Not

In advance on Stephen Colbert’s first night as host of The Late Show on CBS, his late-night competitors are wishing him luck — sort of — and offering some advice. Many of them– Trevor Noah, John Oliver, Trevor Noah, Larry Wilmore, Seth Meyers and Bill Maher, but not Jimmy Fallon — appeared in a Vanity Fair video (watch it above). Best moment: Noah, Comedy Central’s yet-to-debut replacement for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show, advises the former Comedy Central late-night star to be careful what he tweets. Of course, that’s a reference to Noah’s own problems — to which Colbert shot back, “Oh I know how to be careful what I tweet: #canceltrevor.”

Meanwhile, Colbert’s lead-out James Corden advised him to make sure his very best material was saved for the last minute of the show.
