Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik will compete on the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars."

Nedoroscik, a Worcester native, was announced as the first contestant on the show's upcoming season on "Good Morning America" Thursday.

During the Paris Olympics last month, Nedoroscik went viral for his performance on the pommel horse in the men's gymnastics team final, which led to the United States' bronze win in the event. He also won bronze in his signature event, pommel horse.

'Pommel Horse Guy' Stephen Nedoroscik to compete on 'Dancing with the Stars'

The Worcester native said he hopes to bring some of his pommel horse moves to the dance floor.

"I wanna have fun with it," Nedoroscik said.

As for his signature glasses, Nedoroscik said he plans to get creative.

"Maybe we can do a gadget (to) keep them on," Nedoroscik said. "Maybe a new pair of glasses, match the theme."

The 25-year-old is the first male gymnast to compete on the series.

Who is Stephen Nedoroscik?

Stephen Nedoroscik is an Olympic gymnast from Worcester. He began his training at Sterling Academy of Gymnastics.

He specializes in the pommel horse event, for which he won an Olympic bronze medal in the Paris Olympics. He also won a bronze medal for the men's gymnastics team final, the first time the United States medaled in the event in 16 years.

Before the Olympics, Nedoroscik won the World Championship for pommel horse in 2021, becoming the first American to do so.

The gymnast also has two eye conditions, strabismus and coloboma, that impair his vision, causing him to wear glasses.

What is 'Dancing with the Stars'? When the upcoming season premieres

"Dancing with the Stars" is a competition reality show on ABC. It pairs celebrity contestants with professional dance partners, who compete each week with ballroom dances.

Nedoroscik is competing on the show's upcoming season, looking to become the first winner from Massachusetts.

Season 33 of "Dancing With the Stars" premieres Sept. 17.
