Steve Carell Starring in Robert Zemeckis Drama ‘Marwencol’

Steve Carell will star Robert Zemeckis’ drama “Marwencol,” based on Jeff Malmberg’s 2010 documentary.
The project, set up two years ago at Zemeckis’ Universal-based ImageMovers, centers on a man who recovers from an assault by building a miniature World War II-era village in his backyard. The documentary won awards from the Boston Society of Film Critics and SXSW.
Universal optioned Mark Hogancamp’s life rights as well as Malmberg’s documentary. Malmberg is exec producing. Universal’s Maradith Frenkel and Chloe Yellin are overseeing the project.
Carell received a best actor nomination for “Foxcatcher.” He’s currently filming Adam McKay‘s “The Big Short” with Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling.
Carell is represented by WME and Steve Sauer of MediaFour Management.
The news was first reported by the Wrap.
