Stevie Wonder to play Detroit, Grand Rapids in October as part of swing-state tour
(This story was updated to add new information.)
Stevie Wonder will play Detroit's Little Caesars Arena on Oct. 22 as he heads out on a 10-city swing state tour ahead of November's election.
The iconic Motown star will also play Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on Oct. 30 as part of the run, a series of shows he has dubbed "Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart."
Tickets will go on sale at noon Friday through Ticketmaster. In a Thursday media release, Wonder said he would also be donating a number of tickets to people in each tour market.
Wonder's tour will kick off Oct. 8 in Pittsburgh before making stops in states including North Carolina, Georgia and Wisconsin and wrapping up with the Grand Rapids show.
While the October run is not explicitly billed as a show of support for presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Wonder has long championed Democratic causes, performing with candidates and at other events, such as last month's Democratic National Convention in Chicago. In October 2020, he played at Detroit's Belle Isle as part of a Joe Biden rally.
The tour follows the recent release of his single "Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart."
Thursday's announcement says the tour comes "at the height of a critical election season and a pivotal juncture in American politics and culture, in a call for 'joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war.'"
The LCA concert will be Wonder's first full homecoming in Detroit since a 2015 stop at Joe Louis Arena, part of his nationwide tour celebrating the album "Songs in the Key of Life."
