Stranger Things Finally Wraps Production On Its Final Season: See Fun-Filled Behind-the-Scenes Photos
We still have a ways to go before we get to lay eyes on the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, but at least, at long last, production has been completed on the eight episodes that will serve as the series’ sendoff.
You may recall that shooting was set to begin on the end of Stranger Things in the summer of 2023 — a year after Season 4 dropped. Needless to say, that didn’t happen, what with the writers’ strike followed by the actors’ strike. Work wasn’t able to get underway until the winter of ’23.

Despite Season 5 being dealt a delay to rival the one that smacked Season 4 — thanks for nothin’, COVID — executive producer and director Shawn Levy has issued assurances that our young protagonists will still look, you know, young. “We’ve already watched the cast of our show grow up… and between 12 and 22, every human being changes profoundly,” he told Variety. “That being said, our hair and makeup and wardrobe department are pretty exceptional, using costumes and wigs and makeup.
“The ’80s are also our friends in returning these young adult actors to their iconic Hawkins characters,” he added. “So, we’re going to use all the all the tools available to us.”
Need a refresher as to how Season 4 ended? Let our recap jog your memory. Then keep scrolling to take a look at the below behind-the-scenes photos Netflix released from a year’s worth of shooting Stranger Things.
Sofa, So Good
We can only imagine that Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Winona Ryder (Joyce) and Noah Schnapp (Will) took advantage this photo op to playfully tease Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas) about “lying down on the job.”
Life On the Hood
Charlie Heaton (Jonathan), Natalia Dyer (Nancy) and Joe Keery (Steve) put a new spin on the term “parking” — and seem to suggest that their characters’ love triangle is far from resolved.
Light It Up
Gaten Matazzo (Dustin) and EP Levy appeared to be having an illuminating conversation.
Dough-Re-Mi
Clearly, Priyah Ferguson (Erica) wouldn’t be able to play this scene until everybody was bready. Er, ready.
Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before…
Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) and co-creator Matt Duffer share a laugh. Possibly two. Hard to count in a still photo.
Keep On Truckin’
The idea of Maya Hawke’s Robin and Brett Gelman’s Murray on a road trip is almost too funny to stand.
Beard and Unexplained Phenomena
Co-creator Ross Duffer splits hairs with an extra scruffy David Harbour (Hopper).
What’s Cookin’?
OK, who else clocked the very modern device that was surely removed from the set before Ryder and Cara Buono (Mrs. Wheeler) started taping this scene?
… and Now the End Is Near
Hawke, Keery, Wolfhard and Heaton look almost as happy as we will be the day Season 5 is finally available to stream.
Upon Closer Inspection…
It’s the Duffer Brothers’ world, we’re just living in it.
