Aphex Twin‘s seven-track Cheetah EP is ambient, brooding, and compellingly nuanced. It was made on and titled in honor of the Cheetah MS800 synthesizer, an analog piece both fantastically rare and “notoriously … difficult” to program.
The tracks are either deliciously long or incredibly short, in standard Richard D. James fashion. “CHEETA1b ms800” and “CHEETA2 ms800” are nothing more than eery soundscapes running hardly longer than a minute. Definitely give the eight-minute “Cirklon3” a listen. It might be the grooviest of them all.
Aphex Twin Teases New ‘Cheetah’ EP on Warp Records
Cheetah is scheduled for official release at the end of this week. The exclusive stream from BBC Radio 6 runs 39 minutes, features wonderful narration by host Tom Robinson, and will remain available through the end of June.
