How To Stream Tim Burton’s Original ‘Beetlejuice’

With the juice officially loose a second time in theaters as of Sept. 6, those looking to remember what the 1988 original Beetlejuice was about might want to watch the first film.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice features a cast of some new characters as well as familiar faces that appeared in the first film. The sequel comes from director Tim Burton and writers Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Seth Grahame-Smith.

Monica Bellucci plays Beetlejuice’s ex-wife, a soul-sucker who seeks vengeance. Willem Dafoe plays an actor-turned agent Wolf Jackson, who oversees suspicious Afterlife activity. Burn Gorman plays the Winter River priest, and several other faces like Danny DeVito and Santiago Cabrera appear in the new film. Amy Nuttal took on the role of Jane Butterfield.

What Is Beetlejuice (1988) About?

In the original film, bio-exorcist Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton) advertises his abilities to newly dead couple Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam (Alec Baldwin) Maitland, who drove off of a bridge when they swerved to avoid a dog. Stumped on how to keep new people from moving into their house, the Maitlands first try to consult their Handbook for the Recently Deceased before they call on the green-haired demon.

The Deetz family — Charles (Jeffrey Jones), Delia (Catherine O’Hara) and Charles’ daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) — attempt to settle into the Maitlands’ old house atop the hill, but the couple tries haunting them to get them to leave. Lydia, a teenager who is fascinated with black and strange things — can see them.
