‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel Scores Summer 2021 Release Date

“The Suicide Squad,” the sequel to 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” will hit theaters on August 6, 2021, Warner Bros. announced Wednesday.

Peter Safran and Charles Roven will produce. James Gunn will write the screenplay — the plot is currently unknown and no director is attached yet. Currently, no other film is slated for that release date.

“Suicide Squad” was directed and written by David Ayer and starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, Cara Delevingne and Joel Kinnaman.

It grossed $325 million domestically and almost $750 million worldwide, although it was mostly panned by critics.

Warner Bros. also announced it would be releasing “The Batman” on June 25, 2021. Anne Hathaway’s “The Witches” will hit theaters on October 16, 2020, while “Doctor Sleep” moved from January 24, 2020 to November 8, 2019.
