Sway to Patsy Cline's 'Sweet Dreams,' 'Crazy,' 'I Fall to Pieces' at April 11 concert

Six Miles to Nellie will pay to tribute to County Music legend Patsy Cline at the Crawford County Community Concert Association's show Thursday, April 11.

The show is intended for anybody who remembers Cline, who died young, but had a number of hits not only in the country genre, but also in popular music, association member Linda Leyda said.

Cline’s character will share her memories of the songs Cline recorded and their connections to her family and life.

The night will include timeless standards such as “Walkin' After Midnight,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces” and “She’s Got You,” among others.

The Concert Association’s 2024-2025 season lineup will be announced during the show, and attendees will have the opportunity to pick up membership forms to buy season tickets.

How the new Patsy Cline band was discovered

Tom Holtshouse and his wife, Pam, discovered the group Six Miles to Nellie when they were on vacations in Southern Ohio, around McConnelsville in Morgan County. They stopped at an old opera house where Six Miles to Nellie was performing its Patsy Cline tribute show.

“We were amazed how good it was and brought it back,” Holtshouse said. “The unusual thing about this particular show is the lead singer.”

The lead singer for the show is Courtney DeCosky, who performs as Cline. DeCosky, Holtshouse said, makes the show different from many other Cline tributes.

Leyda said that DeCosky started out at a talent show when she was in the ninth grade, realizing all she wanted to do in her life was to sing. Her children, said Leyda, think she sings to much and too loud at home.

During the Bucyrus show DeCosky will do several costume changes, Holtshouse said. In between, a comedian playing Minnie Pearl will deliver a few pieces and do the introduction to DeCosky’s performance, acting as an MC for the show.

“Minnie Pearl's character is truly a country comedian,” Leyda said. “She’s been around I bet for 50 years, the real Minnie Pearl.”

The warmup bluegrass group The Bona Fides from Knox County will perform as well. One of the musicians with the group, John Schnabel, (on rhythm acoustic guitar and banjo) originally from Bucyrus.

Other band members are Jeff Williams (electric guitar), Michael Wolfe (bass), Brad Oviatt (fiddle), Stevie Eyer (keyboard), Terry Martin (steel guitar) and Les Harmeyer (drums).

Why it is important to attend the show

Ticket and membership sales account for 60% of the Crawford County Community Concert Association's annual budget. The association is run by volunteers.

The event is partly sponsored by FCBank, Ohio Mutual Insurance Group and grants from the Ohio Arts Council and the Community Foundation for Crawford County, and other community-minded sponsors.

“If we didn’t have community-minded businesses buying ads in the program, and also people being season sponsors,” Holtshouse said, “what we do just wouldn’t be possible.”
