The Housemaid centers on Millie (Sweeney), who lands a job as a housemaid to wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew before learning that the pair hide dangerous secrets.
Producers include Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, alongside Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Serving as executive producers are Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden and Alex Young.
Carly Kleinbart Elter will oversee The Housemaid for Hidden Pictures, while Chelsea Kujawa and Erin Jones-Wesley are overseeing for Lionsgate. Robert Melnik negotiated the deals on behalf of the studio.
Sweeney is known for Anyone but You and Euphoria, and her forthcoming projects include Apple’s thriller film Echo Valley with Julianne Moore. Sweeney is represented by Paradigm, imPRint and Stewart Brookman and Hansen Jacobson.
Seyfried’s key previous roles include Mamma Mia! and The Dropout. She is repped by Innovative and Frankfurt Kurnit.
Feig’s most recent project as director is Amazon’s action-comedy Jackpot!, which debuted in August, while his sequel feature A Simple Favor 2, starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick, is set for release next spring from Amazon and Lionsgate. The filmmaker is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer.
“I’m thrilled to have The Housemaid join our upcoming slate,” Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said in a statement. “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”
Added Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erin Westerman, “Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away. We’re thrilled to team them with Paul Feig, who we worked with on A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, and has a proven track record of developing stories with dynamic female leads.”
