Sydney Sweeney ‘not pretty’ and ‘can’t act,’ top Hollywood producer Carol Baum claims
Top Hollywood producer Carol Baum has hit out at actress Sydney Sweeney following the release of her blockbuster hit film “Anyone But You.”
Baum, whose work includes “Father of the Bride” and “Shining Through,” said the two-time Emmy-nominated actress “can’t act” during a discussion at a screening of her 1988 film “Dead Ringers,” according to the Daily Mail.
‘She’s not pretty, she can’t act,’ Baum reportedly said at the Jacob Burns Center in Pleasantville, N.Y., last week. “I don’t get Sydney Sweeney.”
The film producer referred to Sweeney’s recent romcom “Anyone But You,” in which she stars opposite Glen Powell, to critique her acting skills.
“I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,” Baum reportedly told the audience, calling the film “unwatchable.”
Baum went on to slam the “Euphoria” alum’s appearance, telling the audience that she couldn’t come up with a reason for why Sweeney’s career had taken off.
“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’” she said, recalling a conversation she had with her students at The University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. “Nobody had an answer.”
The event moderator, Janet Maslin, confirmed Baum’s scathing review following the screening.
“It IS unwatchable,” she said of Sweeney’s “Anyone But You” film. “Carol Baum said this after we screened ‘Dead Ringers’ at the Jacob Burns Film Center and she mentioned having seen ‘Anyone But You’ on a plane.”
“But ‘Dead Ringers,’ b/o a book Baum optioned 10 years before David Cronenberg adapted it, gets better and better,” Maslin wrote on X.
Still, Baum bizarrely admitted that she would take on a project if Sweeney, 26, starred in it.
“We all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know,” she said. “Your job is to get the movie made.”
The Post has reached out to Sweeney’s reps for comment.
Sweeney solidified her spot in Hollywood following the major success of HBO’s “Euphoria.”
She landed the role of Cassie Howard in the hit series — a role that earned her an Emmy nomination in 2022.
She became a two-time Emmy nominee following her role as Olivia Mossbacher in season 1 of “The White Lotus.”
