TAO Group Unveils Dream Midtown’s Expanded Rooftop Lounge With a Summer Party & DJ Cassidy
On June 21, the Dream Midtown in New York and restaurant and nightlife company TAO Group will commemorate the completion of its revamped PHD Terrace, a 2,500-square foot rooftop lounge, with a summer celebration that includes a set by New York’s own DJ Cassidy, a Billboard co-sign, and of course, unrivaled views of the city.
The summer party does not necessarily serve as a reopening — the rooftop remained open during renovation — but more as a reintroduction to the city. With a bi-level lounge and double the outdoor space on its 16th floor, the venue’s expansion marks the final notch in TAO Group’s ambitious, three-part plan for Dream Midtown. According to TAO Group Managing Partner Matt Strauss, it’s an effort that has lasted over two and a half years following the completion of the Dream’s craft cocktail and wine bar concept The Rickey and FISHBOWL, a subterranean lounge anchored with a built-in photo booth, mini bowling lanes and a skee-ball machine.

Strauss also sheds some light on how Billboard came to be involved in such a massive undertaking. Hint: it all starts with the music.
“It was a synergistic move since the [Hot 100] festival is taking place later this summer and is such a musical staple in New York,” Strauss tells Billboard. “ It seemed like the perfect occasion to partner.”
To Strauss, combining two events that are set to heighten New York’s nightlife was an obvious decision. Coincidentally, the partnership arrives just as the hotel’s summer party headliner DJ Cassidy unleashes his latest single “Honor,” with Grace and Hot 100 Festival artist Lil Yachty. According to Strauss, the decision to bring on Cassidy came from the desire to establish a reputation for vibrant nightlife offerings, while also building a solid foundation with the city and its guests.
“When you think of New York City music and DJ’s, you think of DJ Cassidy,” Strauss says. “We’ve worked with DJ Cassidy before and he puts on a great performance that the audience loves, and we hope to deliver a quintessential New York City night for our guests.”
Based on what TAO Group has in store for this grand reintroduction, the PHD Terrace will certainly leave an impression on the city.
The summer party on June 21 will initiate PHD Terrace’s summer schedule, which includes access seven days a week and features regular programming staples like Aperitivo Tuesdays and Whisper Wednesdays.
