Tate McRae Goes Sheer in Rhinestoned Ala?a Dress on ‘The Tonight Show,’ Talks Sydney Sweeney Feature on ‘So Close to What’
Tate McRae made her late night debut on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday. The pop star recently dropped her third album, “So Close to What.”
McRae favored the sheer trend in a forest green rhinestone jersey dress by Ala?a, which featured a gathered skirt. Black high-heeled sandals completed her look, curated by Doja Cat and Karol G’s stylist Brett Alan Nelson.

Speaking to host Jimmy Fallon, McRae discussed how she approached Sydney Sweeney to appear on her album. The “Euphoria” star lent her voice to McRae’s track “Miss Possessive.”
“Glen Powell, who I do Pilates with sometimes, he connected us,” McRae said. She had previously met Sweeney backstage at “The Tonight Show” in December of 2023.
“Sydney was such a legend,” McRae continued. “She just sent me 10 versions of this little voice memo thing and it was like three days before the release and she was the absolute best for doing it.”
The singer, whose third album debuted at number one in 33 countries, also spoke about working with her boyfriend, Australian rapper The Kid Laroi. The couple, who has been dating since 2024, collaborated on McRae’s “I Know Love.”
“It was a little nerve-racking. The first time we ever sang in front of each other was actually at my MSG show last year,” McRae explained. “We were sitting in soundcheck like, ‘Are you going to sing first?’ We had never done it before so it was the same kind of situation in the studio.”
