Landman Trailer: Billy Bob Thornton Drills Down Into the Oil Industry’s Dark Side in Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ Drama

Billy Bob Thornton is taking on “the most dangerous job in the world” — oil extraction, that is — in a new trailer for the Paramount+ drama Landman.

Hailing from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Landman stars Thornton (Fargo) as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager for an oil company in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas. Jon Hamm (Mad Men) plays Monty Miller, a titan of the Texas oil industry who has a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy, while Demi Moore (FEUD: Capote vs. the Swans) plays Monty’s wife Cami.

In the literally explosive trailer released Thursday (which you can watch above), Thornton’s Tommy gives viewers a primer on the oil business, revealing the extreme dangers that go hand in hand with making the industry so profitable. (“We don’t do it ’cause we like it,” Tommy says of extracting oil from the ground. “We do it ’cause we run out of options.”)

Landman‘s cast also includes Ali Larter (The Rookie), Michelle Randolph (1923), Kayla Wallace (When Calls the Heart), Jacob Lofland (Justified), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (Fate: The Winx Saga). Andy Garcia (Rebel) and Michael Pe?a (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) will guest-star as well.

Based on the podcast Boomtown, the series is described as “a modern-day tale of fortune seeking in the world of oil rigs” and “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics,” per the official synopsis.

Landman premieres with two episodes on Sunday, Nov. 17, on Paramount+, followed by one new episode weekly. Watch the latest trailer above, then keep scrolling for first-look photos of the cast, and tell us if you’ll give Landman a watch.
